Industrial Insulation & Noise Control: Frequently Asked Questions
To help you choose the right material and installation service, Centrotec has collected frequently asked questions (FAQs) from engineers and factory operators, with answers from our team of experts.
Rockwool Sound & Heat Insulation
Q: How is Rockwool insulation different from regular fiberglass insulation?
A: Rockwool insulation is made from natural volcanic rock. Its key advantages are a service temperature of up to 650°C, a melting point above 1,000°C, and non-combustibility, while fiberglass insulation withstands lower temperatures. Rockwool also has much higher density, giving it noticeably better sound absorption and noise transmission control in industrial facilities.
Q: What Rockwool density should I choose for noise control vs. heat insulation?
A: For general heat insulation, a density of 40-60 kg/m³ is sufficient. For noise control (soundproofing) or loud machine rooms, we recommend 80-100 kg/m³ or higher, so the rockwool structure can trap and dissipate sound wave energy most effectively.
Cladding (Hot/Cold Insulation) and Removable Jackets
Q: What are the benefits of cladding, and what materials are available?
A: Cladding covers the inner insulation layer with a metal sheet to protect it from the environment — rain, moisture, UV radiation, and mechanical impact — extending the life of the insulation and piping system. Centrotec offers Aluminium for general use and Stainless Steel for areas requiring high chemical/corrosion resistance.
Q: Why choose a Removable Insulation Jacket?
A: For points that need frequent maintenance, inspection, or access — valves, pumps, flanges, or specialized machinery — permanent cladding is hard to remove without damage. A Removable Insulation Jacket lets technicians take it off and reinstall it easily without rebuilding the insulation, saving time, cutting costs, and keeping excellent energy-saving performance.
Soundproof Installation for Generator & Machine Rooms
Q: What needs special attention when soundproofing a machine room or generator room?
A: The most important factor is balancing sound containment with ventilation, since machinery and generators constantly release high heat. Installing sound insulation on walls and ceilings (e.g. perforated-panel Rockwool systems) must go hand-in-hand with designing a sound attenuator box at the air intake/exhaust openings, so air can flow well while sound doesn't leak out.
Q: How many decibels (dB) can Centrotec's soundproofing reduce noise by?
A: Noise reduction depends on the existing structure and machine type, but generally Centrotec's standard Soundproof system (stud wall + high-density Rockwool + sound-absorbing panel) can reduce noise levels by 20-40 dB(A), bringing average noise levels around the machine room within legal safety standards.
Wire Mesh for Roof Insulation in Factories & Warehouses
Q: Why is wire mesh needed when installing roof insulation in a factory or warehouse?
A: Wire mesh acts as a support structure that holds up the insulation (such as rolled insulation batts or Rockwool) and prevents it from sagging under the roof over time. It helps maintain the air gap, preserves the insulation's heat-resistance performance for longer, and helps keep out pests like birds or rodents that could damage the insulation.
Q: Which type of wire mesh is most durable and cost-effective long-term?
A: We recommend Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh, since it resists rust and moisture buildup under the roof extremely well, with a thicker zinc coating than electro-galvanized wire — keeping your factory or warehouse roof structure solid without frequent replacement or repair.
