Coated Wire Mesh for Roof Insulation: Choosing Between Electro-Galvanized, Hot-Dip, and Hexagonal Mesh

Welded Wire Mesh (Square)

Welded square mesh is strong and holds its shape, ideal for supporting insulation batts or rolls across roof framing. Available in 0.90 m and 1.20 m widths.

  • Electro-galvanized (cold): #16 wire (1.60 mm) with 2"x2" openings, and #14 wire (2.00 mm) with 1"x2" openings, for indoor or low-humidity roofs

  • Hot-dip galvanized: #14 wire (1.70-2.00 mm) with 1"x1" and 1"x2" openings, or #16 wire (1.60 mm) with 3/4"x3/4" openings. More corrosion resistant, for outdoor and humid areas

Hexagonal Mesh

Hexagonal mesh is flexible and conforms to surface shapes, suited to wrapping pipes, tanks, and curved surfaces.

  • 0.90 m width: #18-25 wire (0.50-1.20 mm), 1/4"-1" openings, 5-18 kg per 30 m roll

  • 1.20 m width: #18-25 wire (0.50-1.20 mm), 1/2"-1" openings, 7-24 kg per 30 m roll

  • Under metal sheet roofs carrying insulation weight: heavier-gauge welded square mesh

  • Outdoor or humid areas: hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance
